Official figures cited by Telesur put the number of companies that have shut down since Javier Milei took office at 30,633, with registered employers falling by 2,371 in May alone and more than 70,000 formal jobs lost.

Javier Milei won Argentina's presidency in December 2023 on a libertarian platform of deep spending cuts, deregulation and shrinking the state. His government argues the shock therapy is the price of taming inflation, while unions, opposition parties and parts of the business sector say it is destroying employers and jobs.
