OpenAI revenue run rate passes $40bn as revenue chief departs

OpenAI's annualised revenue has topped $40 billion, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, strengthening the case for a stock market listing. A day earlier, revenue chief Denise Holland Dresser announced her departure.

Dresser said in a LinkedIn post on Friday, 14 August, that she would leave "in the coming weeks", Handelsblatt reported. She wrote that the decision had been difficult and that she was proud of what the company had achieved, but that she now wanted to pursue other career options. Her exit falls in the middle of OpenAI's preparations for a listing, for which no date has been set.

More senior managers on the way out

Fidji Simo, hired as a chief executive for OpenAI's AI products to relieve Sam Altman, left in July after about a year and a three-month sick leave; the Financial Times reported she stays on as an adviser. Former finance and operations chief Brad Lightcap and ethics officer Chloé Bakalar also left recently, and the FT reported unease among the roughly 6,000 staff.

Money around the listing

Nvidia has scaled back its plan to guarantee $250 billion of OpenAI data-centre spending, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday. Anthropic took in more than $11.5 billion in the second quarter, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
