Mokha port halts operations as Houthi missiles hit Marib

Houthi missiles and drones hit residential areas of government-held Marib on Saturday and again overnight. Yemen's government calls the attacks an escalation; the port of Mokha has halted operations.

Marib's provincial authority said four ballistic missiles and four drones struck the city on Saturday, 15 August, injuring several people and damaging homes. A fifth missile wounded one person later that day, and a sixth followed overnight. The authority called them part of an ongoing assault on civilians and camps for the displaced; Marib shelters more than two million of Yemen's roughly five million displaced.

Mokha port shut

Reuters reported, citing the port director, that Mokha halted operations after Houthi attacks; The Hindu reported the government's account of at least four civilians killed there.

Counterstrikes near Taiz

Government forces said their drones killed three Houthi fighters, including field commanders, west of Taiz on Saturday; a military source told state agency Saba another strike destroyed a Houthi vehicle in Jabal al-Zuhayb.

UN warns of full-scale war

The UN envoy told the Security Council on Thursday that Yemen faces its highest war risk since the April 2022 truce; Houthi strikes on camps in Marib and Hadramout killed at least 30 soldiers in early August.
