Trump ends midterm campaign as Michigan Democrat backs Republican

12 sources

Trump held his last rallies in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, two days before the midterms.

Trump told the crowd in Salina, Kansas, that it was his 30th rally, according to Le Monde, after an earlier event in Dubuque, Iowa. The Financial Times expects Republicans to lose the House and to fight to hold the Senate, where Democrats need a net gain of four seats; a New York Times/Siena poll found them ahead in many key races. Bloomberg reports Trump saying he may become "Mr. Veto" if Democrats win a majority.

Michigan Democrats split

Representative Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers over her party's Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, citing his past appearances with streamer Hasan Piker. Chuck Schumer called it "a despicable betrayal", while Trump praised it on Truth Social.

Alaska suit dismissed

Judge Sharon Gleason in Anchorage threw out the administration's suit to block certification if Republican Dan Sullivan loses and votes for a namesake could have changed the result, Reuters reports. Democrat Mary Peltola's campaign is accused of recruiting the namesake.

Senator Murphy hospitalized

Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy had a stroke on Saturday; his chief of staff says he is at Johns Hopkins, awake, alert and responding well.

Other opinions

The Jerusalem Post casts Stevens' move as a widening rift between Jewish communities and Democrats; the FT and Le Monde stress party disunity.
