Chancellor John Healey said he will ask Ofgem to remove standing charges on gas bills for 23m homes in 2027 or soon after, ahead of his first budget on Wednesday. The Guardian reported that he was also poised to reverse a planned cut to the cash Isa allowance, which Rachel Reeves had wanted to reduce from £20,000 to £12,000 a year from April.
