Symbolic imageHouthis target Aden airport as Saudi strikes kill 14 in Yemen
Saudi air strikes killed at least 14 people in Al-Jawf on Wednesday, according to Houthi media. The Houthis fired missiles at Aden airport.
The Houthi channel Al-Masirah says Saudi jets hit a petrol station and a market in Al-Jawf on Wednesday, 28 October, and wounded 15 people. In Aden, a police source told AFP that Houthi missiles struck the airport twice. The first landed inside the perimeter next to a Saudi military plane, which was not hit and took off. The second hit an area held by Saudi forces after Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree ordered an immediate evacuation, claiming a Saudi cargo plane carried weapons. Saudi authorities had not commented, and the cargo claim is unconfirmed.
Ras Tanura and oil prices
On Tuesday the Houthis claimed strikes on the Ras Tanura refinery and Riyadh's defence ministry; damage is unclear. The Hindu reports that oil rose more than 1% afterwards. The Houthis called Egypt's offer of defensive support for Riyadh a "declaration of war".
Taiz cut off
Al Jazeera reports that Taiz, home to about 1 million people, has been besieged since early October, after the Houthis took al-Turbah by 4 October and government forces closed the al-Houban crossing. Fuel stations have been shut since 5 October, 20 litres of petrol cost 120,000 riyals (four times last year's price), and the UN says water production has halved.
