Symbolic imageWarren presses Anthropic on risks as IPO filing lifts AI stocks
Senator Elizabeth Warren demands answers from Anthropic on "existential" risks, the Wall Street Journal reports. The company's IPO filing has meanwhile lifted AI shares.
The Wall Street Journal reported exclusively on Wednesday, 28 October, that Warren is pressing the company; its teaser gives no further details. Handelsblatt says investors combed the prospectus, published on Monday, for signs of how durable the AI boom is. Despite multibillion-dollar losses, the Philadelphia semiconductor index rose 2.8 percent on Monday and 3.6 percent on Tuesday. South Korea's Kospi gained 3 percent on Tuesday and 6 percent on Wednesday, ending a weak spell in both markets.
Risks in the filing
In its SEC filing, Anthropic warned that AI can be misused for cyberattacks or biological weapons and that loss of control could be "a global security threat of the first order", The National reports.
Proxy bets
Bloomberg reports that Asian investors shut out of the IPO are turning to proxy bets. The Financial Times reports that ETFs use "perps" to offer exposure to private firms such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
