The rights group Emergency Lawyers says 102 people died in a Sudanese army drone strike on a market in Nyala, Darfur. Early reports counted 21 dead.
The strike hit the busy Tanqonj market in Nyala, held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), on Monday evening, 26 October. Emergency Lawyers said on Wednesday that 113 people were also wounded, according to Le Monde. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Tuesday that Nyala Teaching Hospital had received 36 bodies, 21 of them in civilian clothes, and treated more than 150 injured; a second drone hit a residential area. The RSF claims 188 civilians dead and 356 injured, which could not be verified, and the army had not commented by Tuesday.
Drone war widens
UN figures count more than 300 deaths from drone strikes in the first three weeks of October. A strike on another Nyala market on 16 October killed at least four, and MSF urged both sides to stop attacking markets.
