Symbolic imageAnthropic pledges 5% of shares to public benefit fund before IPO
Anthropic said on Sunday it will commit 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund, worth around $48bn at its May valuation. Shareholders still have to approve the plan.
In a blog post, Anthropic said the fund would receive a further 2% of shares, at the board's discretion, for every 50% rise in the company's value above a baseline yet to be announced. It could finance donations to nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations, but not lobbying or political donations. Labour-market disruption is one focus, after an earlier $200m commitment. The announcement comes as an AP-NORC poll finds 64% of US adults think AI is developing too fast.
Musk and Trump respond
Elon Musk wrote that shares should go directly to the public and pledged one SpaceX share to every child in America next year. President Donald Trump praised the idea on Monday and implied it would run through the Trump Accounts programme.
IPO and cloud talks
Anthropic plans to list possibly in November, and the Guardian reports it is considering a $1.5tn valuation. Bloomberg reports that it is negotiating a $45bn cloud computing deal with Nscale.
