Korean border fortifications

Where things stand

North Korea's army chief Pak Jong Chon inspected fortification construction along the southern border on Tuesday, according to state news agency KCNA, which says troops must act if the enemy provokes.

North Korea and South Korea remain technically at war, divided by a heavily fortified border since the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty. Pyongyang has in recent years treated Seoul as a hostile state and reinforced its side of the frontier.
