Typhoon Dolphin injured six people and cut power to more than 50,000 buildings in Okinawa and Kagoshima on Saturday. Chinese forecasters expect it to reach the east coast between late Sunday and early Monday.
Zhejiang raised its coastal typhoon alert to the highest level and halted port operations, while authorities in eastern and southern China suspended ferry services and ordered fishing boats back to port. China's weather service rated Dolphin orange, its second-highest category, and expects landfall between Zhoushan in Zhejiang and Fuding in Fujian. Parts of eastern Zhejiang could receive more than 600 millimetres of rain.
Air and rail traffic halted
Shanghai Pudong cancelled 78 departures and 123 arrivals on Saturday, the South China Morning Post reported; Ningbo Lishe airport was to halt all flights on Sunday, along with some Yangtze River Delta rail services.
Okinawa counts the damage
Five elderly people in Okinawa suffered non-life-threatening injuries, three of them after falling in strong winds, and one person was hurt in Kagoshima, where nearly 39,000 buildings lost power.
Taipei rejects Strait order
The Hindu reports that Taipei called Beijing's traffic control order for the Taiwan Strait during the storm 'ridiculous'. Taiwan cancelled 78 flights, mostly international.
