Symbolic imageRussia strikes Kyiv bridge and power grid ahead of Abu Dhabi talks
Russia hit Kyiv's Northern Bridge and energy sites with 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles overnight to Saturday. Power cuts followed in five regions, days before US-Russia-Ukraine talks.
Ukraine's Energy Ministry reported outages in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions on Saturday, 7 November. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called the capital's supply situation extremely difficult, affecting heating and water. The Northern Bridge over the Dnipro was closed for repairs, and President Volodymyr Zelensky said nine people were wounded, including a child. Russia's Defence Ministry said it hit the bridge because it carried weapons for Ukraine's army, along with a thermal power plant, a substation and a Kyiv plant making Flamingo missiles. Zelensky said preliminary findings show North Korean KN-23 missiles struck one important energy site.
Pressure before Abu Dhabi
Zelensky accused Moscow of escalating to weaken Ukraine's position before talks between Russian, Ukrainian and US negotiators in Abu Dhabi, due from Tuesday. In a CNN interview he called Jared Kushner's blueprint "Yalta 2.0" and said wider European security talks could only follow an end to Russia's war.
Ukrainian strikes on Russia
Bloomberg reports a hit on the Saratov oil refinery. Local officials said a Ukrainian drone killed one person in Grayvoron in Russia's Belgorod region, while Russia's Defence Ministry said its air defences downed 903 Ukrainian drones in a day.
