A Russian drone killed at least 14 people on a train platform in Dnipro on Thursday. Russia reported intercepting a record number of Ukrainian drones overnight.
A jet-powered Russian drone hit the platform where the Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia train stood at Dnipro's station on Thursday, 29 October. Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported at least 14 dead and 14 injured, after early reports of 13 dead. Ukrainian Railways said people stayed on the platform despite a heightened-danger warning. President Volodymyr Zelensky called it a horrific attack and urged tougher EU, US and G7 sanctions.
Record drone wave
Russia's defence ministry said it intercepted 1,214 drones overnight, which Le Monde calls unprecedented. Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 613 flew toward the Moscow region and flights at three airports were restricted for two hours; Astra counted over 460 delayed or cancelled flights in Moscow and St Petersburg. Sterlitamak's administration head said eight drones were shot down with minor damage, while Astra reported smoke over the Bashkir Soda Company.
Patriot shortage
Zelensky said Ukraine received an average of 12 Patriot missiles a month this year and used 35 in October, and he criticised US delays in PURL deliveries. On Wednesday the Dutch government pledged Patriot missiles from its stock, without giving a number, within a €500 million military package.
