New Mexico judge orders Meta to pay $567m over child safety

A New Mexico judge on Thursday ordered Meta to pay $567 million over the state's claim that the company created a public nuisance and harmed children on Facebook and Instagram. The sum comes on top of $375 million in civil penalties imposed in March after a jury found Meta had misled users about platform safety, bringing the total to about $942 million according to the Wall Street Journal.
