UN warns strengthening El Niño will intensify global heat

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said an intensifying El Niño will drive higher temperatures, heatwaves, floods and drought worldwide over the next three months, and called for a halt to new fossil fuel projects. He said India's monsoon rains are in danger and that the climate crisis is being pushed into "uncharted territory" on a planet already "on fire".
