Symbolic imageANC loses ground in South African local elections
Early results from South Africa's local elections show a sharp drop in ANC support compared with 2021. Reuters reports the party narrowly leading the Democratic Alliance (DA).
South Africans voted on Wednesday, 4 November, and the first results came in on Thursday. The Financial Times reports that the party of Nelson Mandela has been reduced to a minority party in the country's largest cities. The count is still at an early stage, and the sources available so far give no vote shares or seat numbers.
