Symbolic imageGaza truce toll passes 1,600 after new Israeli strikes
Israeli strikes and gunfire killed four to five people in Gaza on Thursday, including a child. Gaza's Health Ministry counts 1,602 dead since the ceasefire began.
Gaza's civil defence, which operates under Hamas authority, said Israeli fire killed five people on Thursday, 5 November, among them a woman and a 12-year-old boy east of Al-Bureij. Al Jazeera counted four dead. According to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a tent sheltering displaced people west of az-Zawayda and killed Abdul Rahim Walid Matar, 27. The Israeli army told AFP it struck Hamas "terrorists" near Al-Zawayda and was not aware of the incidents involving the child and the woman. Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the truce. The ministry reports 1,602 Palestinians killed and 5,794 wounded since it took effect, while Le Monde notes the army lost seven soldiers and one civilian worker over the same period.
Child amputees barred from leaving
Telesur, citing Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, reports that Israel is restricting the exit of 1,134 children with amputated limbs from Gaza, including medical evacuations. The Geneva-based group also cites a ban on importing prosthetics tools, and WHO data show only about 500 of 2,300 assessed amputees received permanent prostheses.
Families face winter on the beach
Displaced families near al-Qarara port in Khan Younis fear a repeat of last winter's flooding of their tents, Al Jazeera reports. The Mayasem Association is building sea barriers from soil-filled cooking pots donated by World Central Kitchen.
