Kyiv seeks to defuse row with Tehran over Caspian Sea ship strike

Ukraine said it did not intend to hit an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, insisted its strike targeted Russian warships and warned Iran against escalation, while Tehran demanded compensation. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the attack expands the geography of what Moscow calls terror, and the FAZ read the operation as a political message to Donald Trump before his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.
