Algeria to deploy army units to Niger at Niamey's request

Algeria's president ordered army units to deploy to neighbouring Niger on Monday at the request of Niamey, to protect shared energy projects and economic interests, according to Reuters and Daily Sabah. It would be Algeria's first deployment abroad since 1973; the upper house of parliament approved it in an emergency session on Sunday, and the lower house was expected to meet on Monday.
