Voronezh deaths and Russian strikes as UN calls grid attacks war crimes

5 sources

Ukrainian missiles and drones killed two people in Voronezh, Russia's governor says. A UN commission called Russian attacks on Ukraine's grid war crimes.

Ukrainian missiles and drones struck Voronezh overnight on Monday, 26 October, killing two men and injuring 17, including a child, Governor Alexander Gusev said. Fires broke out at industrial sites and an apartment building, and five people were hurt on an Anapa-Moscow train, according to Russian Railways. Gusev reported 113 drones downed, Meduza 117. Astra, an independent Telegram channel, concluded the Voronezhsintezkauchuk plant was hit. Russia's Investigative Committee opened a case over what it calls a terrorist attack.

Russian strikes on Ukraine

Russia's Defence Ministry said it hit substations in Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi region and port sites in Odesa region that it says support the military. Zaporizhzhia's governor reported four injured, and Kyiv's mayor said a strike hit the Pivdenny bridge overnight into Tuesday, with one killed and ten injured in the city, per Le Monde.

UN finding on the energy grid

The UN Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine told the General Assembly on Monday that attacks on heating plants and power lines since autumn 2022 are war crimes of intentionally attacking civilian objects. Chair Erik Mose said the attacks have intensified as winter nears.

Other opinions

TASS and Gusev call the Voronezh strike terrorism, and TASS presents Russia's strikes as hitting military-support targets. Its Monday reports here do not mention the UN findings.
