Symbolic imageEgypt authorises military support for Saudi Arabia as Houthi attacks go on
Egypt's parliament approved military aid for Riyadh on Monday, while the Houthis claimed new strikes on Saudi targets. The Saudi-led coalition says it hit Houthi missile sites.
The coalition said on Monday, 26 October, that it destroyed four ballistic missile launchers, five tunnels and a missile depot used by the Houthis, and that its air defences intercepted a missile fired at Riyadh. The Houthis said they struck Riyadh's airport with a ballistic missile and hit oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia with drones; Reuters notes that Saudi Arabia has not confirmed the pumping-station claim. The group also claimed missile attacks on positions in Aden and Lahij governorates.
Cairo backs Saudi defence
Parliament authorised the military to support Saudi Arabia, parliamentarians said, after President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi asked for approval last week. Sisi has said the support is limited to defending Saudi territory and borders, not attacking Yemen. Egyptian state television gave no further details, according to TASS.
Flights remain grounded
Cirium data show 4,071 of 4,736 scheduled flights at Riyadh's airport (86%) were cancelled between 8 and 25 October, and 45% of departures across Saudi airports. International airlines have suspended Riyadh services into November, and the investment conference was postponed until 2027, Al Jazeera reports.
