Symbolic imageAnthropic publishes IPO prospectus showing surging revenue and steep losses
Anthropic made its S-1 filing public on Monday, putting it on track for a listing next month. It would be the first frontier AI lab to list.
In the 335-page filing made public on Monday, 26 October, Anthropic reports a net loss of $80.7bn for the first half of 2026 on revenue of about $16.3bn. Reuters attributes the loss largely to a rise in the fair value of bonds convertible into shares. Revenue grew 1,368% in the three months to 30 June from a year earlier. The Financial Times says the IPO will test whether public investors share the enthusiasm of Anthropic's private backers.
Compute commitments
Since 30 June, Anthropic has signed lease and commercial agreements with minimum future payments of about $245bn, mostly for compute, plus about $21bn in short-term obligations. It also raised its revolving credit facility to $15bn from $3.3bn, and AMD has promised to invest up to $5bn in Anthropic shares.
Governance and risks
The FT notes a governance structure that gives ordinary shareholders almost no power, and the filing itself warns of possible "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity". Bloomberg reports that it also cites climate change and disruption at TSMC as risks.
Claude writes the code
According to the S-1, over 90% of contributions to the codebase in September 2026 were written by Claude. Revenue per employee is $6.6mn.
