Oil reserves at lowest since 1982 as Iran war lifts prices

3 sources

Fuel costs from the Iran war keep airfares high, while oil stocks are depleted. Iran's president says many people in the country struggle to get food.

Politika reports, citing International Energy Agency data, that global strategic stocks of crude and products such as diesel and kerosene are at their lowest since 1982. Analysts at London's IG Group warn that any Gulf escalation before Israel's Knesset election on Tuesday or the US midterms on 3 November could push Brent toward $150. Brent passed $114 on Friday after Aramco evacuated staff from its Dhahran headquarters following repeated Houthi missile strikes from Yemen. The US State Department ordered part of its diplomatic staff to leave Saudi Arabia, and NBC reported that the US military is quietly reducing personnel at Middle East bases.

Airfares stay high

The New York Times reports that ticket prices jumped after fuel costs spiked because of the war. Airlines say even an end to the conflict will not bring fares down quickly.

Food stress in Iran

Iran's president says many people are struggling for food as the war bites, according to The Hindu.
