Symbolic imageSaudi strikes and Houthi missile fire escalate Yemen conflict
Houthi media say Saudi strikes killed 11 to 17 people in Houthi-held areas on Saturday. The Houthis claim attacks on Saudi airports and oil sites, while Riyadh reports intercepting missiles.
On Saturday, 24 October, Houthi outlet Al-Masirah reported Saudi strikes on a Sanaa house (at least four dead) and on a cement-factory residence in Hamdan (SCMP: six women and a child; Le Monde: eight dead); Riyadh has not commented. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the group targeted Riyadh's King Khalid airport, an Aramco site in Yanbu and the Rabigh refinery. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted missiles aimed at Riyadh, Taif and Yanbu, and Saudi Civil Defense reported debris from two missiles fired toward Mecca and Medina in Mecca, Taif, Jeddah and Rabigh. Saree called that claim a "huge lie".
Aden under fire
The Houthis say they hit the Al-Nasr camp and a naval base in Aden. Yemen's government says three ballistic missiles struck coast guard sites; its interior ministry named the coast guard headquarters and one other building.
Airport and warnings
Riyadh airport said flights resume Sunday after two weeks of closure, while Reuters reports the Houthis renewed a warning against using it. The US State Department warned on Friday of rapid regional escalation.
Taiz siege
Humanitarian groups say drinking water in Houthi-besieged Taiz, home to over 1 million people, has reached crisis levels, with desalination plants short of fuel and delivery trucks largely blocked.
