Symbolic imageHouthi missiles hit Aden palace as Saudi Arabia points to Iran
Houthi missiles hit the government's palace complex in Aden on Thursday, while strikes on Saudi Arabia continue.
The Houthis fired five missiles at the Maashiq palace complex on Thursday, 15 October, Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryani said. The government put the dead at five, while The Hindu and the New York Times reported at least two; the prime minister and cabinet members present were unharmed. The Houthi-run Saba agency said the target was a military headquarters run by Saudi officers and weapons depots, which Reuters could not verify. FAZ notes the strike pulls the south into focus after the Houthis' September offensive along the west coast.
Airports under fire
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis launched 20 attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid airport this month, killing 17 and wounding 333, and hit Abha airport, killing three and wounding 28. The coalition says it destroyed 127 weapons storage facilities and launch platforms. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree renewed the warning that Saudi airspace and airports are unsafe, excluding Mecca and Medina.
Riyadh points to Iran
Maliki said the Houthis acquired ballistic missiles, drones and explosive-laden fast boats with help from "regional actors". The New York Times reports that Saudi Arabia says Iran is fueling the conflict.
