Symbolic imageKenya confirms second Ebola case as Congo outbreak grows
Kenya reported a second Ebola case on Wednesday, a 39-year-old relative of its first patient. Both cases trace to the outbreak in eastern Congo.
The man fell ill on Tuesday and is in a designated treatment centre, Kenya's Health Ministry said. The first patient, a 40-year-old businessman who had travelled from Congo, died in a Nairobi hospital last week. Health Director-General Patrick Amoth said authorities identified 128 of his contacts and traced 113, who face daily temperature checks for three weeks, and that there is no evidence of spread in the wider community.
Questions over border screening
Experts question how the first patient crossed three countries despite airport screening, the Telegraph reports. Al Jazeera notes the Congo-Uganda border has been closed since May. Alan Kasujja, executive director of Uganda's government media centre, wrote on X: "Leave Uganda out of this conversation. We don't have Ebola here."
Congo toll keeps rising
Congo has recorded at least 9,066 confirmed cases since May and more than 4,300 deaths, the Telegraph reports. Reuters reports that mothers and children in the east are avoiding vital care.
