Symbolic imageRussia strikes Kyiv's power plants despite energy truce; Ukraine hits Russian data centres
Russian strikes left at least 600,000 Ukrainians without power, days after Trump announced an energy truce. Ukrainian drones hit a Sberbank data centre.
Russia fired 39 ballistic missiles and more than 102 drones at Ukrainian energy infrastructure on Wednesday, 14 October, Zelensky said, damaging 26 power facilities and four oil and gas sites. The prime minister said all three of Kyiv's heating plants were hit; police counted five dead in Kyiv, and authorities two more in Dnipropetrovsk region. Moscow's Defence Ministry confirmed strikes on energy and communications sites around Kyiv and in Kharkiv region, citing their use for the army and the arms sector. Zelensky asked Trump for sanctions and more Patriot systems.
Data centres hit
Ukrainian drones struck Sberbank's Balakovo data centre in Saratov region overnight; the governor reported a civilian killed in the town. Sberbank confirmed the attack and said services were normal, yet users reported outages. Meduza says three of Yandex's six largest data centres were hit between 7 and 11 October.
Truce disputed
Trump said on 11 October that both sides had agreed not to hit refineries; Zelensky called that news to him. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Novak claimed Ukraine struck refineries in Saratov and Ryazan, but regional authorities reported none and Meduza found no reports.
Donetsk advance
FAZ and Reuters report that Kyiv says it has retaken more villages in Donetsk region.
