Symbolic imageNetanyahu and Trump reportedly discussed renewed Iran strikes before elections
Axios and Israel's Channel 12 report that Netanyahu pressed Trump last week on resuming strikes on Iran before Israel votes. Trump says a decision will come "very soon".
Netanyahu spoke with Trump about a renewed joint campaign against Iranian nuclear and military sites before Knesset elections at the end of October, Axios reported on Tuesday, 13 October. US officials said Netanyahu cited alleged Iranian efforts to rebuild nuclear capacity. One US official said Trump told him to "go ahead and get ready" without firm commitment, while an Israeli official said Trump first seemed willing, then grew hesitant. A White House official denied the two discussed resuming the war and said Trump has stated the US will not attack before the midterms. Netanyahu's office confirmed regular contact but gave no details.
Washington divided
According to Axios, the IDF and CENTCOM are finalizing preparations in case Trump orders strikes. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM leadership reportedly back resuming the war most strongly, while much of the administration favors economic and political pressure.
Trump on Iran's leadership
At a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, Trump said: "We might have gone too far with the leaders because we don't know who the hell we're dealing with anymore."
