Tigray war
Symbolic imageWhere things stand
Federal forces and the Tigray Peace Force, a militia of a breakaway TPLF faction, entered Mekelle without fighting on Saturday after the TPLF said it had temporarily withdrawn. Fighting had escalated on 23 September; AFP reports looting in some districts.
Ethiopia's federal government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) have been in conflict over control of the northern Tigray region, with the TPLF now split into rival factions. A earlier war between the two sides ran from 2020 to 2022, and tensions have flared again since.
