Colombia recognised Israeli sovereignty over the annexed Golan Heights, becoming the second country to do so after the United States. Bogota called the territory an essential component of Israel's national defence, and Israeli foreign minister Sa'ar said the decision demonstrated the Colombian president's commitment to Israel.
