Security Council holds first secret straw poll on next UN chief

The UN Security Council began selecting the next secretary-general on Thursday with its first informal secret straw poll to measure support among the candidates, according to Daily Sabah and The National. Seven candidates are competing to succeed António Guterres, whose term ends on 31 December 2026, in a contest FAZ describes as a test of the organisation's future weight.
