Symbolic imageTrump names Stephen Miller chief of staff as Justice Department leaders resign
Trump replaced Susie Wiles with hardliner Stephen Miller three days after Republicans lost Congress. Senior Justice Department officials also resigned this week.
Trump announced on Friday, 6 November, that Susie Wiles will step down as chief of staff and Stephen Miller, his deputy and the architect of the immigration crackdown, takes over on Monday. Wiles moves to the Trump Political Operation. Trump told reporters he "wanted to make a change", after telling CNN on 16 October there was "zero chance" of one. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted "Patriots in control", while Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, poised to chair the House Oversight Committee, said Trump was "doubling down".
Justice Department exodus
On Friday John Eisenberg, head of the national security division, and Jason Reding Quiñones, US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, resigned, a day after civil rights chief Harmeet Dhillon. Quiñones's office ran the "grand conspiracy" investigation, which has struggled to bring charges, the Jerusalem Post reports. The reasons are unclear; departures after midterms are common, and Democrats plan investigations of the administration.
