Symbolic imageDozens killed at Taiz market as Houthis and government trade blame
A strike on a market in Taiz governorate killed dozens on Friday. The Houthis blame Saudi aircraft, the government blames a Houthi missile.
The Houthi health ministry says three Saudi air strikes on al-Hadara market in al-Waziiya district killed 30 civilians and injured eight. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the aircraft took off from Khamis Mushait. Government spokesperson Majed al-Nazili says the Houthis fired ballistic missiles and calls it a "war crime", while local government authorities deny any air raids there. Al Jazeera could not verify either account, and the Saudi-led coalition had not responded.
Fight for al-Waziiya
Al Jazeera's reporter says the Houthi-held district, which commands much of the western Red Sea coast, is under daily coalition attack. The Yemeni army says it retook several areas of Taiz governorate on Friday.
Fire on Saudi Arabia
On Thursday the coalition said it intercepted a Houthi missile fired toward the Medina region; the Houthis call that slander. On Friday Saudi forces said they downed a drone over the Mecca region without naming its origin, Le Monde reports.
Syrian instructors for Riyadh
Syria TV, citing a senior Syrian diplomat, says Syria has sent instructors under a bilateral defence pact for training and advice, not troop deployment for now. Reuters, citing sources, also reports advice and training. Syria earlier denied an Axios report on talks to send 10,000 to 20,000 troops.
