Symbolic imageKomyshuvakha toll rises to 53 as Kyiv blackouts persist and refinery strikes continue
A governor raised the death toll from Monday's Russian bombing of an aid point in Komyshuvakha to 53. New Russian strikes left Kyiv and six other regions without power.
Reuters and Le Monde both report the new toll of 53 dead, which Reuters attributes to a governor. Le Monde's live coverage describes several salvos of Russian ballistic missiles on the Kyiv area overnight. According to the emergency service, at least three people were injured in the city, one of them a child, and one more nearby. Zelensky had warned that Ukrainian intelligence expected new Russian attacks on energy sites, Dnipro bridges and civilian facilities.
Kyiv blame game over blackouts
Reuters cites an official saying the Kyiv area was the worst hit of seven regions with new outages. Zelensky called Kyiv's power and water cuts the worst in the country and accused the city of failing to prepare for the heating season. Mayor Klitschko replied on Telegram that the central government lies, manipulates and obstructs the capital, TASS reports. TASS also reports that residents blocked roads in protest.
Refinery campaign continues
Bloomberg reports that Ukraine hit its sixth Russian oil plant in a week. Authorities in Krasnodar Krai reported a fire in Afipsky from falling drone debris without naming the site, while Ukrainian Telegram channels reported a refinery fire. Russia's Defense Ministry says it downed 142 Ukrainian drones overnight. Zelensky said the operation against Russian refining continues in response to strikes on Ukrainian energy sites, and that every Ukrainian power plant has been damaged.
Other opinions
TASS foregrounds Klitschko's dispute with Zelensky and traffic chaos in Kyiv, while Le Monde centres on the missile strikes.
