AI borrowing tests credit markets as investors seek protection

5 sources

Meta, Oracle and Alphabet are raising bond financing for AI spending, and investors are demanding higher yields and downside protection.

Meta started a debt offering to fund AI investments, Bloomberg reports, after Oracle ($10 billion) and Alphabet (€6 billion) launched bond sales on Monday that Reuters says test appetite for tech debt. The Financial Times writes that investors now demand more to finance the data centre boom, and the Wall Street Journal reports that AI investors are seeking downside protection. Reuters adds that the borrowing may pressure European bond markets.

Apollo's record lending

The Financial Times reports that Apollo lent a record $114bn in the third quarter, including funding for Anthropic and Nvidia.

Stocks under strain

Bloomberg quotes Goldman's Molavi as saying 60% of the S&P 500 is in bear-market territory, and reports that US stocks wavered on election and AI bubble risks.

Financiers divided

At a Hong Kong summit, Pimco CEO Emmanuel Roman said AI infrastructure investment could reach $10 trillion over five years, approaching the size of the $12 trillion US bond market. Executives also questioned whether power grids can keep pace, while Bloomberg reports Wall Street CEOs and money managers are split on the risks.
