Iran's supreme leader told commanders that any new US or Israeli attack will meet an immediate response without geographic limits, as Qatari mediators try to avert US strikes.
In a statement on Saturday, 31 October, Mojtaba Khamenei ordered the armed forces to prepare a "geographically unrestricted response" and told the IRGC to update its target list to reach "all tangible and intangible assets of the US and Israel". Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that "Red lines are a thing of the past."
Qatari talks split on sequence
Qatari mediators held more than 12 hours of talks in Tehran on Friday, then Iranian negotiators went to Doha, a Reuters source said. A US official told Axios Washington wants nuclear concessions first, while Iran demands the blockade lifted and sanctions eased. Iran has offered to reopen Hormuz within seven days if the blockade ends.
Strikes weighed after midterms
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the G20 in Atlanta that Trump "hasn't made a decision" on striking Iran. Israeli defense officials assess no attack before Tuesday's midterms unless a surprise attack is detected, and say the US and Israel have drawn up plans for afterwards, the Jerusalem Post reports.
NPT and nuclear ban
Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei said Iran is debating whether to keep its ban on nuclear weapons if fighting resumes, with no decision taken, and that its rights under the non-proliferation treaty must be respected.
