A suspected drone exploded over Lithuania on Sunday, forcing residents to shelter. Ukraine regretted the incident, saying Russian electronic warfare may have diverted its drones.
Residents of northern and central Lithuania sheltered for an hour on Sunday morning, 18 October, the president and defence officials said. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said the object flew in from Poland and proposed a joint investigation to his Polish counterpart. Bloomberg reports that Poland is investigating a suspected airspace violation, and Reuters says the Polish military scrambled aircraft as Russia struck Ukraine.
Romania shoots down two drones
Romanian F-16s shot down two drones over Romanian territorial waters, Reuters reported. Two days earlier, drones hit two tankers near the Sulina canal; seven sailors remain missing, and a NATO source told Reuters those drones were Russian.
Sabotage in Lithuania and Germany
Lithuania called an attempted Starlink arson Russia-linked sabotage, according to Reuters. At Leipzig/Halle airport, a vehicle most likely broke through the fence overnight to Sunday, police said; the north runway was temporarily closed and searchers found no intruders. Berlin blamed Russia for an attempted attack there on 4 August, when drone parts and explosives were found near Ukrainian Antonov aircraft.
