Symbolic imageAsian chip stocks fall as AI debt worries spread
Japan's Nikkei fell 1.8% on Monday as funding concerns over AI data-centre builders hit chip stocks. Microsoft's exit from a UK deal with Nscale and a new DeepSeek model added to the pressure.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the Nikkei tracked losses on Wall Street, while Bloomberg says Korean stocks fell as a DeepSeek model and funding worries rattled chipmakers. The Financial Times reported on Sunday, 18 October, that Microsoft abandoned an agreement to lease capacity at a UK site of the AI cloud provider Nscale. Bloomberg separately reported that Nscale faces investor pushback over its IPO valuation. The Wall Street Journal also notes that Japanese government bonds rose amid AI-related credit concerns.
