Russian officials say two people died and nine were hurt in an overnight Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region on Tuesday. A major fuel depot is reported ablaze.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 650 drones flew toward the city and region from the evening of Monday, 5 October, most shot down at long range and 105 on the approach to Moscow. Governor Andrei Vorobyov said a 20-year-old man was killed in Radumlya and a 71-year-old man was found under the rubble of a house in Barybino. Nine people were injured and 47 private homes damaged, he said. TASS called it one of the largest attacks on the capital area in two years, though Sobyanin put the biggest, on 19 and 20 September, at more than 1,600 drones. Sheremetyevo Airport temporarily suspended operations, according to Daily Sabah.
Fuel depot reportedly burning
Ukrainian monitoring channels and the outlet Astra say the Volodarskaya pumping and dispatch station caught fire. It is described as the region's largest oil depot and is linked by pipeline to Moscow's main airports. Local authorities have not reported a fire or confirmed a hit.
Strikes elsewhere in Ukraine
Russian aerial bombs killed at least six people in Kharkiv on Monday and injured 59, authorities there said. On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone hit a minibus in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, killing three, according to Moscow-installed officials.
