Yemen's government says it pushed the Houthis back near the Bab el-Mandeb strait, which the Houthis deny. The Houthis meanwhile struck Saudi airports.
Yemen's government said on Tuesday, 6 October, that its forces had driven the Houthis out of the Bab el-Mandeb area, Dhubab airport and the port of Mocha, which the Houthis seized in September. Yemeni officials told AP that forces also retook the towns of Bab and Hadeid. The Houthis deny any retreat and say they repelled advances toward the strait. Military sources did not confirm Mocha's recapture, only that its supply route was cut, and AFP could not verify positions. Sources from both camps put the toll at over 270 fighters killed in 24 hours.
Saudi airports hit
Saudi aviation authorities said strikes on Jizan and Najran airports on Monday caused three minor injuries. The Houthis also claim attacks on Riyadh's airport and an Aramco refinery, unverified; Riyadh flights were paused for hours, per FlightRadar24. Turkey and Pakistan agreed to send forces to Saudi Arabia under their Makkah pact, which both parliaments must still approve.
Displacement grows
The UN's IOM says over 184,000 people fled fighting between 1 August and 4 October. Nearly 21,800 were displaced from 27 September to 3 October, 26% more than the week before.
