Symbolic imageEU presses TikTok on minors as France bans under-15s from social media
The European Commission told TikTok that it does not sufficiently protect minors, creating risks of cyberbullying and exposure to potential predators, and demanded changes to account settings, with a possible fine of up to 6% of global revenue if the platform does not comply. Days earlier, on 21 July, French deputies and senators adopted a bill banning social media for under-15s, while according to Le Monde the Commission favours a graduated approach with staggered access for different age groups.
