Chinese experts have dismissed a White House report accusing exporters of dodging US tariffs through third countries. They say Washington is raising trade barriers that will disrupt global supply chains.
The White House report, released on Thursday, 13 August, says Chinese exporters channel goods through more than 40 third countries and disguise their origin to enter the United States at lower tariff rates. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Washington puts the duties avoided this way in the billions of dollars. Experts cited the same day by Global Times called the transshipment claims an attempt to build a 'higher fence' around the US market and warned they would disrupt global supply chains. The state-affiliated paper places the report in the series of tariff measures Washington has imposed on dozens of countries under its 'America First' agenda.

The Hindu reports that the United States named India among the more than 40 countries which, according to the report, help China evade tariffs through a 'shadow network'.
