Settlers hold Qusra siege as Israeli troops pull back

4 sources

Settlers have kept two Palestinian families trapped in their homes in the West Bank village of Qusra since Sunday. Israeli troops sent to lift the siege pulled back on Wednesday without ending it.

Yesh Din told Central Command chief Avi Bluth on Tuesday that seven people, among them girls aged 10 and four, had been trapped for three days, with the access roads blocked by stones and the power, solar and water lines cut. Bluth visited the families on Wednesday morning and promised to remove the settlers; soldiers took away their tent but left bedding and other belongings behind, and the army said it was still enforcing a closed military zone. The Guardian reported that settlers had blocked an ambulance on Monday when one of the daughters fell ill. Chief of staff Eyal Zamir ordered an extra infantry battalion into the sector that evening.

Washington presses the prime minister's office

KAN News reported on Wednesday, citing a senior White House official, that the United States believes Israel is not doing enough to stop settler attacks; the official plans to press the Prime Minister's Office on it.

Poll: 37% back full annexation

A Jewish People Policy Institute poll published on Thursday found 37% of Israelis back full annexation of the West Bank and 30% partition; fewer than 1% of Jewish respondents would grant Palestinians full citizenship after annexation.

Other opinions

The National (UAE) reports the troops pulled out, which the military denies, and casts Qusra as settler militias backed by the army; the Jerusalem Post frames it as a failure of Israel's own defence establishment.
