Investigation documents rape of women recruited from Russian prisons as front-line medics

The independent outlet Verstka reports that Russia's Defence Ministry launched a programme called 'Choice' in 2024, soliciting volunteers at women's prisons for service as front-line medics, and documents rape by commanders as well as criminal cases against the women who reported it. Meduza carried the investigation on Tuesday, alongside reports that Moscow's Gulag museum has been replaced by a state museum about the Nazi genocide of the Soviet people and that Sergey Nedovodin, a founder of the radio station Ekho Peterburga, died at 61 after being beaten outside his Moscow home.
