Where things stand

The State Department said on Monday that more than 175,000 visas have been revoked since President Donald Trump took office, a pace it describes as record-setting. Most followed law-enforcement encounters involving criminal activity, according to the department.

A US visa is the permit that lets a foreigner travel to and stay in the country, and the State Department can withdraw one after it has been issued. Under President Donald Trump the department has made broad use of that power, and it publishes running totals of the revocations.
