Google gave Demis Hassabis, the head of its artificial intelligence unit, a new role and handed DeepMind to the Turkish-born researcher Koray Kavukçuoğlu, according to reports on Thursday by the New York Times, Bloomberg and Daily Sabah. Bloomberg wrote that the shake-up weakens Britain's bid to stay in the global AI race and leaves the incoming DeepMind chief with substantial problems to fix.

UK clears Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros Discovery
Britain's antitrust watchdog cleared Paramount Skydance's takeover of Warner Bros Discovery on Thursday, and culture secretary Lisa Nandy said she would not intervene after securing guarantees on Channel 5. The deal is put at $110 billion by the Financial Times and the South China Morning Post and at $81 billion by the Wall Street Journal, and it still faces a key hurdle in the United States.
