The Guardian reported on Sunday that Rebeca Grynspan, a Costa Rican diplomat and former vice-president, has become a strong contender to be the next secretary-general of the United Nations. The paper described her as a continuity candidate with tacit support from the current secretary-general, António Guterres, and said her selection would make her the first woman to hold the post.
