UAE accuses Iran of tanker attacks in Hormuz

The UAE accuses Iran of attacking two ADNOC ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening. Tehran says no ship may pass without its permission.

Abu Dhabi's foreign ministry said the ADNOC-affiliated ships were hit on Thursday evening, 13 August, that nobody was hurt, and demanded Iran reopen the strait. A tanker of the same company was targeted on 8 August. Iran's central military headquarters told Tasnim that no ship transits safely without its armed forces' permission.

Blockade and economic isolation

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised unprecedented isolation measures and a continued blockade of Iran's ports, after Trump claimed 'total control' of the strait on Wednesday; Iran's army called that a lie. Vice President JD Vance named cheap oil the war's first goal.

Fresh carrier for a strained crew

The USS George Washington has reached the Strait of Malacca to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln, at sea for more than 240 days; CENTCOM denied reports of sailors jumping overboard.
