Drones suspected to belong to Sudan's Rapid Support Forces hit three cities on Wednesday, residents said. Neither side in the war has commented.
The drones struck an area west of Omdurman housing large army bases and the Nile-side city of Bahri, residents told The National, with further hits on the industrial city of Atbara and on Al Obeid, partly besieged by the RSF for months. Residents saw drones over the capital before explosions shortly after dawn; unverified video showed black smoke and damaged buildings. Unconfirmed media reports said at least two people were killed and six injured in Al Obeid, where residents named a base of the army's Fifth Infantry Division as the apparent target.
Fronts shift in Kordofan and Blue Nile
The RSF said on Tuesday it had captured the town of Qayssan in southern Blue Nile. Last month the army and its allies took a key Kordofan city and areas along a motorway to Khartoum; the RSF seized near total control of Darfur last year.
Fourth year of war, no truce
Since fighting broke out in April 2023, tens of thousands have been killed and about 14 million people displaced, with an estimated 20 million facing hunger. The army has rejected Pope Leo XIV's ceasefire call, and The Telegraph reports aid agencies call eastern Chad, where hundreds of thousands have fled, past breaking point.
