Nicolás Maduro has governed Venezuela since 2013 as the successor to Hugo Chávez, but his presidency is internationally contested. After the election in July 2024, the pro-government National Electoral Council declared Maduro the winner without presenting detailed vote counts; the US and numerous other states did not recognize the result and saw the opposition candidate Edmundo González as the actual winner.
